Race 5 of the Trail Series will have a 10 Mile and 20 Mile option. The route will be challenging with a climb up the Yellow /White Connector and a trip down to Lower Peavine Falls creek and back out of the Peavine Falls gorge. October 20 through 22 - The Endless Mile at Heardmont Park - When we created the Run for Kids in 2011, my original idea was to have a 12 Hour and 24 hour race at Veteran's Park. Due to the very high hourly fees charged by the City of Hoover to use the park we dropped the idea and moved to Oak Mtn State Park. Over the last couple of years I have again wanted to create a timed even on a very fast course where runners can test themselves again's the hours. We are excited to announce the first annual "The Endless Mile 12 Hour, 24 Hour and 48 Hour race. The course will be all asphalt hiking trails in this beautiful park. We will start the 48 Hour race at either 7:00 AM or 6:00 PM, Friday, Oct 21st. More details to follow. Hurt at Heardmont is not a Points Race in the STS.

October 28 - BOO Run for Down syndrome - Race starts at 8:00 AM - 5K and 10K Races and 9:30 AM for the 1 Mile Fun Run.
The BOO Run Run is a fundraiser for Down Syndrome Alabama with all proceeds going to DSA. This is going to be a fun event for the entire family. Check out all the activities on the website. The races will start at the Dogwood Pavilion. The 5K and 10K will circle Double Oak Lake (the swimming and canoeing lake) on the Lake Trail. The 10K will turn left at the Rattle Snake Ridge Trail and the 5 K will continue straight back to the Dogwood Pavilion and the finish.

Since the 25 & 50K were originally scheduled for be run simultaneously with the 100 and 50 Mile, anyone not able to on Dec 2 may run the 25 or 50K December 9th. You will need to notify STR well in advance so we can make the necessary changes.

December 9 & 10 - Race 8 - Blood Rock 100 & 50 Mile Trail Race - Oak Mountain State Park. Blood Rock will be the final event in the 2017 Southeastern Trail Series race schedule. The 100 and 50 mile races will start at 5:00 AM in the Cabins on Lake Tranquility. Points awarded toward the Points Championship for 2017 for the 100 mile, 50 mile and 50K will be the same. That is, all three races will have 32 Points available.

A word about course measurement:
There is always a lot of discussion about the length of Trail Race courses. First, trail courses cannot be certified. It is impossible to meet the certification requirements for any organization. Race Directors are left with three options, Measure the course with a measuring wheel, (the most accurate) measure the course with a GPS or simply Guess! I use a combination of the first two. I have measured some of the shorter courses with a wheel. I am now measured STR courses with my Suunto, Ambit 3, Vertical. In addition, I have measured Veteran's Park in Hoover (Off Valleydale Rd by Spain Park High School) using my GPS. The measurements with my GPS over the certified 5K course at Veteran's Park and the race routes at Oak Mountain show an error of 0.9519. Early in 21016 I rolled the Run for Kids Course and the measurement was exactly 34,401 ft or 6.277 miles. Later I again measured this course with my Suunto watch and the length came out to 5.82 miles or 0.927 of the actual length. Therefore the factor I use will be 0.9519 to calculate the length off all Southeastern Trail Run courses that are simply too long to measure with a roller.
